Nominated for 7 Emmys in its first five months, Law & Order SVU (Special Victims Unit) continues the achievement of NBC's hit Law & Order franchise. The idea of Order & Law inventor Dick Wolf (former writer for hit SHOWS such as Hill Street Blues and Miami Vice), Law & Order SVU is shot on location in Nyc. It follows the traditional half-police drama/half-courtroom dilemma structure that made its forerunner a smashing success, however SVU focuses exclusively on sexually based offenses
Order & law SVU tells the story of a group of devoted investigators who benefit the elite group the Special Victims Unit known. Capt. Mark Cragen (Dann Florek) heads up the system including four normal investigators - Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), John Munch (Richard Belzer), and Odafin Tutuola (Ice-T). While investigating rapes, killings, and other horrible crimes, the detectives often consult with police psychologist Dr. George Huang (B.D. Wong) who provides special insight in to the minds of alleged predators. Once the detectives collect the mandatory research, their case is turned by them over to Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak (Diane Neal) who brokers deals and prosecutes the cases that set these nefarious criminals behind bars
The Order SVU DVD & Law includes a number of dramatic episodes like the series premiere "Payback" when a cab driver is discovered stabbed to death along with his genitals take off. They discover that the man is a soldier from the Serbo-Croatian struggle and that he was a rapist, when detectives Stabler and Benson examine. Benson, a child of rape, is sympathetic to the actions of rape victims, and Stabler must preserve her from crossing the line to safeguard the potential suspects Other notable attacks from Season 1 contain "Sophomore Jinx" in which a college student's murder investigation is blocked by the college when the SVU suspects a s) of the college basketball team, and "The Third Guy" in which an elderly woman is tangled up and raped in her house, but the investigation takes a special twist when the original suspects are cleared and a new criminal enters the picture
