Most are thinking that when a hybrid power plant can be included in to existing types, why they cant be used in hybrid sports cars as well. One such development, produced with a team of high schoolers designed a diesel-electric hybrid low rider for less than $20,000 using a power plant to drive the cars right back wheels, while using a 200-amp electric motor to perform the leading drive system. Despite having the diesel operating more regularly than the electric plant, the car brags about 50 miles per gallon.
While this sort of car may not get any awards for environmental savings, the theory of creating a performance low rider with hybrid technology may be boosted when engineers figure out how to employ a fuel efficient motor in line with an electric motor only during times of peak power requirements. The hybrid sports vehicles designed by the students claimed acceleration of zero to 60 in four seconds, which makes it near an actual sports car.
Certainly one of the criteria is the weight of many hybrid cars, considering the weight and size of the batteries necessary to maintain a long enough to power the car when the gas engine isn't required. Capacitor discharge is used in hybrid sports cars and only gives power for short bursts during initial take off and during rapid acceleration.
Many people are demanding more of the costly hybrid vehicles, perhaps not ready to settle for slow going, slow start vehicles in exchange for the cost. The initial expense of a hybrid is greater than their main-stream counterparts, which is a thing that customers of potential hybrid sports vehicles could be willing to accept, provided the cost was not overwhelming. Easy redesigning of the bodies on existing hybrid platforms won't be enough to lure people into thinking while the performance is what they're looking for, they are hybrid sports cars. Without the velocity and speed, along with maneuverability they're accustomed to experience, hybrid sports cars are likely to be slow to get popularity. Looks might be a key to sales, but performance could be the purpose for repeat and increased sales.
A Jaguar can be built by a person onto the frame of a Volkswagen, but once the road was hit by them, it is still a Volkswagen. True hybrid sports vehicles may be down in the range, but the younger set may be more willing to embrace the technology, once they do hit the industry.
